Installing the FastStart Base Package

To install the FastStart Base package

  1. Launch the CA DataMinder installation wizard. To do this, run setup.exe in your CA DataMinder distribution image.
  2. In the Installation Type screen, choose FastStart Installation.

This launches the CA DataMinder FastStart installation wizard in a separate window.

  3. In the FastStart installation wizard, navigate to the Destination Folder screen.
  4. In the Destination Folder screen, click Change to install to a non‑default location.
  5. In the Setup Type screen, choose the components you want to install.
    Base installation

Installs a CMS and the iConsole, including searches, reports and policies

Note: If installing CA DataMinder FastStart components on separate machines, you must install the Base component first.

    Network Boundary Agent Policy Engine

This installs a policy engine and Socket API for processing events captured by a Network Boundary Agent (NBA).

    File Scanning Agent

Installs the File Scanning Agent (FSA). This can scan files and other items and apply policy controls.

  6. Specify a parent server.

(NBA Policy Engine and FSA components only) If the Base Installation is installed on a remote machine, the installation wizard automatically installs the NBA Policy Engine and the FSA components as gateway machines. In the Parent Server screen, enter the name of the server hosting the Base Installation.

  7. Enter the database details.

In the Database Identification screen, enter details about the Microsoft SQL Server database you want to host the component(s). You can select a local or remote database. In either case, you must specify the host server (enter localhost to specify a database on the local machine) and the TCP/IP port number used by the host server.

    1. Click the ‘Browse for remote server’ button to select the host server in the Database Server dialog. This dialog lists any servers found to be hosting SQL Server. In the case of multiple SQL Server instances running concurrently on the same computer, the dialog identifies each instance as:
      <machine name>\<Instance name>

Where <machine name> is the name of the server on which SQL Server is running, and <Instance name> is the name of the SQL Server instance. For example:

      MyDBServer\Instance_1

    2. The IP port is set automatically when you choose the host server. You do not normally need to change this. But if necessary, click the ‘Port’ button to manually set the port number.
    3. Specify the username and password for the Database Administrator account.

Note: All SQL Server accounts must use SQL Server Authentication! You specify the authentication method in the Login Properties dialog in SQL Server Management Studio.

  8. Set the Administrative Account details.

(Base and FSA components only) In the Administrative Account screen, you must specify the username and password of an existing Windows user account that is an administrator of the local machine. If you are installing the:

  9. Confirm the data folder location.

In the Data Folder screen, specify the name and network location of the data folder. This contains all the configuration data and captured data associated with the current server. You can either accept the default location or click Change to specify a different location.

Important! Do not install the data folder to an encrypted or compressed folder or file system!

    Specifying a remote data folder

If you want to specify a remote location, you can specify a network file share, using the universal naming convention (UNC). For example:

    \\MyMachine\share_name\target_folder

    \\NAS_device\share_name\target_folder

Sharing and Security settings for the remote folder must allow Full Control for both the user running the installation wizard and the machine running the CA DataMinder FastStart software.

  10. In the final wizard screen, click Install to start the file transfer.
