Upgrading Policy Engines on 64-bit Systems

By default, the installation wizard installs a 64-bit policy engine when you upgrade an existing policy engine on a 64-bit system.

However, if your policy engine hubs run on 32-bit systems, these hubs cannot connect to 64-bit policy engines. If you want to continue using your 32-bit hubs, follow the instructions below.

I want to install a new policy engine

Run setup.exe.

A 64-bit policy engine is installed.

Older policy engine hubs cannot access this new policy engine until they have been upgraded.

I want to install a new policy engine that can be used by my pre-14.1 P hubs.

Run server.msi directly.

A 32-bit policy engine is installed that will work with older PE hubs.

I want to upgrade a 32-bit pre-14.1 policy engine, but retain my existing PE hubs

Run either server.msi directly, or run setup.exe.

The upgrade operation retains a 32-bit policy engine.

Older PE hubs can access this upgraded policy engine.

I want to upgrade a 32-bit pre-14.1 policy engine and set up new PE hubs

Use one of the following methods:

Both methods remove the old policy engine and install a 64-bit policy engine.

Older PE hubs cannot access this new policy engine until they have been upgraded.

I want to upgrade a 14.1 policy engine from 32-bit to 64-bit

Uninstall the 32-bit 14.1 policy engine, but choose to retain the database. Then run setup.exe.

The upgrade operation removes the existing policy engine and installs 64-bit policy engine.

(This scenario assumes that your CA DataMinder deployment does not include any pre-14.1 policy engine hubs.)
