Certain CA Data Protection features need to identify the owners of captured or imported e-mails based on the addresses of the sender or recipients. These features are: policy engines; User Attribute (userattr) lookup commands in e-mail control triggers; and the Event Import utility.
To minimize storage and optimize performance, CA Data Protection stores events and users separately in the CMS database. Unlike in previous versions, it does not assign e-mails or IM conversations directly to CA Data Protection users. Instead, it identifies 'event participants' and maps these participants onto CA Data Protection users based on e-mail addresses.
