Port allocation on each machine is controlled by the configuration file startup.properties. This file is in the \system folder below the installation folder on each CA Data Protection machine. There are two possible situations, both rare, when you may need to edit this file to control the allocation of TCP and UDP ports:
Certain port numbers must be the same across all your CA Data Protection machines. For example, this applies to the server port assigned to the CA Data Protection machine identification service. But if an existing application on a CA Data Protection machine already uses all of the default ports specified in startup.properties, you will need to allocate a new port number for use by CA Data Protection.
If laptop users operating outside your firewall need to communicate with your CMS inside the firewall, you will need to configure the firewall to allow communication between the ports defined in the startup.properties file of the CMS and laptop client machine.
