How to Upgrade CA ControlMinder on Solaris Zones

Upgrading CA ControlMinder on Solaris 10 zones is no different than a regular upgrade. The recommended way of upgrading CA ControlMinder on Solaris 10 is using Solaris native packaging (pkgadd and pkgrm) commands. When you upgrade the installation in the global zone, the upgrade is also propagated into non-global zones automatically.

Important: For CA ControlMinder to work in non-global zones, upgrade it in the global zone first.

When you upgrade an existing installation of CA ControlMinder r12.8 or newer, you can retain the previous version in parallel to the upgraded version. The installer detects the existing installation, shuts it down, unloads the kernel module, and installs the new version in a new directory. You do not need to reboot the host.

Note: You can use the "pkginfo | grep CAeAC" command to check which CA ControlMinder versions are currently installed.

How to update CA ControlMinder on Solaris Zones

Follow these steps:

  1. Verify prerequisites
  2. Customize the Solaris native package
  3. Update Solaris Native Package
  4. Install on a Solaris Branded Zone
  5. Start CA ControlMinder

Note: Due to a Solaris 11 limitation, the CA ControlMinder package is not propagated into non-global zones during installation. We recommend you to install CA ControlMinder in each zone individually using the Solaris native packaging tool (pkgadd).
