To archive log files from your operating system command line, use:
$ CONSOLE ARCHIVE
The system name ALL is reserved for Console Manager. If you use ALL as the system name, all files on all systems you have access to in the configuration database are archived.
The following table shows the switches available to the archive command.
|
Switch |
What It Does |
|---|---|
|
/NOCONFIRM |
Assumes a yes response to the confirmation question in the archive command |
|
/CONFIRM |
Prompts the user for confirmation (default) |
|
/HOURS=n |
Archives the oldest n hours of data from the beginning of the log data |
|
/KEEP=n |
Archives all data except the most recent n hours of data |
|
/BEFORE=time |
Archives all data up to time specified |
|
/DIRECTORY=directory |
Archives data to specified archive directory. You can only archive files to a local directory on the Console Manager host system. That is, you cannot include a system name in the directory specification. |
|
/DELETE |
Deletes the archived data |
If the file space used in the logging directory exceeds the critical threshold set in the configuration database, Console Manager automatically archives data on all serviced systems which are logging data to the directory that is short of space.
You cannot start an archive if another archive operation is already in progress. If you attempt to archive when another archive operation is already in progress, the following message is displayed:
CA Console Manager is already archiving a system. Archive not performed
To archive the log files used to log Console Manager events, you must first shut down Console Manager. Then, use the archive command with the keyword CONSOLEMANAGER as its system argument:
Enter:
$ CONSOLE ARCHIVE CONSOLEMANAGER
To archive the oldest data, use the -h or /HOURS switch (depending on your operating system) to the archive command. This stores the files in the same format as the live log files in either the default archive directory, or a directory of your choice.
For example, to archive the oldest 24 hours of data for the system, SALT:
Enter:
$ CONSOLE ARCHIVE SALT/HOURS=24
To archive all but the most recent 12 hours of data on PEPPER:
Enter:
$ CONSOLE ARCHIVE/NOCONFIRM ALL
