Connect to the Console of a Serviced System

The connect interface provides direct access to the consoles of serviced systems so that you can perform management tasks on these systems from your own terminal.

To connect directly to the console of a serviced system:

• Click the right mouse button on the icon representing the required serviced system. This displays a pop-up menu listing each of the tasks you can do.

  Then choose the Connect to Console menu item. This invokes a DECterm window that is connected to the console of the selected system. Any text you type in this window is transmitted to the serviced system's console, and any data output to the console by the serviced system is displayed on the console window.

• Alternatively, double click the left mouse button on the icon representing the required serviced system. You can only do this if you have set up this facility for connecting to a console as part of your customized setup. Chapter 9, “Customizing Console Manager” explains how to do this.

Connecting to a serviced system lets you do all types of system management tasks on that system as though you were on the local console: for example, rebooting the system or installing software. To be able to connect to a serviced system's console, you must have been granted access by means of a system name or group name in the Console Manager configuration database.

Once you are connected to your specified serviced system, all keystrokes except for the defined halt, escape, exit and refresh keys are transmitted directly to the console of the system to which you are connected. While you are connected you have normal console behavior.
