Apply CA Recommended Service (CA RS) Maintenance

Important! We strongly recommend that you use CA CSM to maintain your CA Technologies z/OS-based products. The procedure that is discussed in this section is fully automated when you use CA CSM.

Use this procedure to apply CA RS maintenance as a part of managing preventive maintenance.

Note: To review the CA Technologies mainframe maintenance philosophy, see your Best Practices Guide or visit the CA Data Center Management page.

Follow these steps:

  1. Copy and paste member SAMPJCL member AW07CARS from PML RI71934 into your SAMPJCL data set.
  2. Do the following:
    1. Determine which ASSIGN statements to download.
      • The yearly CA RS ASSIGN statements are stored in the following file:
            ftp.ca.com/pub/ASSIGN/YEARLY/CARyyyy.TXT

      • The quarterly CA RS ASSIGN statements are stored in the following file:
            ftp.ca.com/pub/ASSIGN/CARyymm.TXT

    2. Open the SAMPJCL member AW07CARS in an edit session, update AW07CARS SAMPJCL to download ASSIGN statements from http://ca.com/support, and execute the AW0SEDIT macro from the command line.

    AW07CARS is customized.

  3. Submit AW07CARS.

The job downloads the CA RS ASSIGN statements.

    AW06RECP is customized.

  5. Submit AW06RECP.

The job receives the external HOLDDATA file and CA RS ASSIGN statements.

  6. Open the SAMPJCL member AW07APYP in an edit session and execute the AW0SEDIT macro from the command line. Add keyword SOURCEID(CAR*) to the APPLY statement.

    AW07APYP is customized.

  7. Submit AW07APYP.

    The PTFs are applied.

  8. (Optional) Open the SAMPJCL member AW08ACCP in an edit session and execute the AW0SEDIT macro from the command line. Add keyword SOURCEID(CAR*) to the ACCEPT statement.

    AW08ACCP is customized.
