In a multiple system environment, designate host and remote file servers. Each CA-L-Serv configuration has only one host file server; all other file servers are remote servers.
Run the host server on the system where the most file I/O requests are issued. Because the host server performs all I/O operations against a set of managed files, all managed files must be accessible from the system running the host file server.
The remote servers do not perform I/O operations on files. Their I/O requests are forwarded to the host server, as shown in the following graphic:
