Integrating the Endpoint

With Identity Management, you can manage accounts on multiple systems from a single user interface, the User Console. The accounts are on systems that are referred to as managed endpoints, or simply endpoints. In the following example, you manage users on two cloud endpoints and four on-premise endpoints. You can assign accounts on any combination of endpoints to a user. When you integrate the endpoint, Identity Management associates each endpoint account with a user in the provisioning directory.

Note the following components in this illustration:

• An endpoint is a specific installation of a platform or application, such as Active Directory or Microsoft Exchange, which communicates with Identity Management to synchronize information.
• A connector is the software that enables communication between Identity Management and an endpoint system. You can generate a dynamic connector using Connector Xpress.

  Note: For information about specific connectors, see the Connectors Guide.

• CA IAM Connector Server manages the following things:
  • All of the Java connectors
  • Any dynamic connectors that were created with Connector Xpress
  • C++ Connector Server (CCS) and its connectors, if CCS is present

  When you install CA IAM Connector Server at your site, all connectors that are supported at the time of the release are also installed.
