Create a Software Package
Your responsibilities include delivering software package and keeping them updated on destination computers. You must package software in the CA Client Automation compatible format to make it available for deployment on destination computers.
The software package library is the central location in an organization where all software are stored. You cannot deploy software that is not packaged.
Follow these steps:
- Open the CA Client Automation Web console and go to Console, Software, Package Library, Members tab.
- Click New Package.
The create new package window opens.
- Provide the following details:
- Name

Specifies a name for the software package.
- Version
-
Specifies the version number for the package.
- Vendor
-
Specifies the name of the vendor of the software.
- Description
-
Specifies the description for the package.
- Type
-
Select whether the type of software package is Generic or Debian Wrapper.
- If you select the type as Generic, follow these steps:
- (Optional) Select CheckSum, if you want to enable Checksum control of package consistency.
- Click Next.
- The Summary page opens.
- Verify the details of the software package and click Finish.
An empty software package is created and added to the Members list.
- If you select the type as Debian Wrapper, follow these steps:
- (Optional) Select Other details to seal the wrapper package after creation and click Next.
- (Optional)Provide the following details and click Next.
- Actions:

Specifies the action macros to be run on the destination computer before installing software.
- Parameters:

Specifies the parameter macros to be run on the destination computer to perform the selected preinstall action.
- Abort installation if preinstall action fails:
-
Aborts the software installation when the preinstall action fails.
- Select the Debian packages from the list and click OK. Then click Next.
- (Optional)Select the packages for which you want to configure the parameters and click Configure. Select the configuration parameters as necessary and click OK. Click Next.
Notes:
- Click Reset All to change the values of all the parameters to their default values.
- Configure action is enabled only if there is at least one parameter defined for the corresponding Debian package.
- Verify the details of the Debian package you are creating and click Finish.
A Debian Wrapper package is created and added to the Members list.
The new software packages are added to the members list.
