Open Projects from CA Clarity PPM

You can open any active projects you have rights to view or edit from CA Clarity PPM. To open projects from CA Clarity PPM, they must be formatted in Microsoft Project.

You can open projects formatted in Open Workbench from the CA Clarity PPM Schedule Connect.

If you can view or edit a project, you can choose to open the project as read-only or read/write. If you only can view a project or if the project is currently locked, you can open the project as read-only.

Note: You cannot open projects with the same project ID and .MPP file name in Microsoft Project from different CA Clarity PPM servers on your computer. If you must open a project under these conditions, delete the .MPP file saved locally and then try to open the project with the duplicate project ID from the other CA Clarity PPM servers.

When you open a project from CA Clarity PPM, the following occurs:

• Your CA Clarity PPM login is sent automatically to Microsoft Project. You do not need to log into CA Clarity PPM Schedule Connect when you open a project from CA Clarity PPM into Microsoft Project.
• The project opens into the Microsoft Project. If Microsoft Project is already running, that instance of the application is used. Any projects open in Microsoft Project remain open.

To open projects from CA Clarity PPM

1. In CA Clarity PPM, go to the Projects page and click the name of the project you want to open.

   The Project Overview page displays.

   Note: See the Project Management User Guide for more information.

2. Ensure the project is formatted in Microsoft Project.

   Note: If the Scheduler Format field is not displayed, contact your CA Clarity PPM administrator for assistance.

3. Select one of the following:
   • Read-Only. Opens the project unlocked in Microsoft Project. Any changes you make in Microsoft Project cannot be saved to CA Clarity PPM.
   • If you have rights only to view to the project or if the project is locked by another user, Read-only is selected by default and the list box is unavailable.
   • Read/Write. Opens the project locked in Microsoft Project. You can save changes back to CA Clarity PPM. Until project is unlocked, other users only can open the project as Read-only.
4. Click Go. The project opens in Microsoft Project.

   Tasks created with dates set in CA Clarity PPM that are different than the project start date acquire Start No Earlier constraints to hold them there. Work effort estimates for each role on each task are loaded into Microsoft Project including the distribution of this work over time.
