You can use the Dimensional tab in the Tables dialog to specify dimensional modeling table roles and document how to update information in the data warehouse if the table has a dimension role.
Note: Ensure that you have enabled dimensional modeling in the Model Properties dialog.
To define dimensional modeling roles for a table
The Tables dialog opens.
The Dimensional tab opens.
Lets you select an option to determine the table's role in the dimensional model. Select one of the following options:
Calculate Automatically (based on usage)
Specifies to assign a dimensional modeling role to the selected table based on the relationships drawn to other tables. Clear this check box to activate the Fact, Dimension, and Outrigger options to manually assign a dimensional modeling role to the selected table regardless of relationships drawn to other tables.
Fact
Lets you manually assign a fact role to the selected table. Available only when you clear the Calculate Automatically (based on usage) check box.
Dimension
Lets you manually assign a dimension role to the selected table. Available only when you clear the Calculate Automatically (based on usage) check box.
Outrigger
Lets you manually assign an outrigger role to the selected table. Available only when you clear the Calculate Automatically (based on usage) check box.
Lets you select an option to document how to update information in the data warehouse if the table has a dimension role. Select one of the following options:
Slowly Changing
Specifies to assign a dimension type to the selected table. Available only when you click the Dimension or Outrigger option.
Dimension Type (List)
Lets you select a dimension type from the list for the selected table. Available only when you select the Slowly Changing check box.
Dimensional modeling roles are assigned and the Tables dialog closes.
