Create a Valid Value List

The validation rules that you create can establish a value, a list of values, or a range of acceptable values to store in a table, column, entity, or attribute. Use the Validation Rules dialog to create a valid value list for your validation rules.

To create a valid value list

1. Click Validation Rules on the Model menu.

   The Validation Rules dialog opens.

2. Select a validation rule from the Validation Name list for which you want to create a valid value list or add a new validation rule, then click the General tab.

   The General tab opens.

3. Select the Valid Values List option.

   The Valid Value grid appears.

4. Click the empty cell in the Valid Value column, enter a new name, then do one of the following:
   • Enter the definition for the value in the Definition field.
   • Copy valid values from another validation rule.
   • Click the Import button to select the .csv or .txt file that contains the valid values you want to import.
5. (Optional) Specify one or more of the following options:
   • Select the Quote check box to enclose each value in the valid value in single quotation marks.
   • Select the NOT check box to invert the expression.
   • Click the Display Value field and enter the value that you want to display in the end-user application.
6. Click OK.

   The valid value list is defined and the Validation Rules dialog closes.
