Copy Valid Values from a Validation Rule

You can save time and ensure consistency by copying valid values from an existing validation rule to a new validation rule you create.

To copy valid values from a validation rule

  1. Click Validation Rules on the Model menu.

    The Validation Rules dialog opens.

  2. Select the validation rule from which you want to copy valid values from the Validation Name list and click the New button.

The New Validation Rule dialog opens.

  3. Specify the following options and click OK:
    Logical

Lets you enter a logical name for the validation rule if you are working in a logical model.

    Physical

Lets you enter a physical name for the validation rule if you are working in a physical model. If you derive a physical model from a logical model, the physical validation rule name is, by default, the same name as the logical validation rule name.

Note: You can enter a logical name for the validation rule, click the Physical field to display the name you entered for the logical name, and, optionally, enter a different physical name for the validation rule if you are working in a logical/physical model.

Copy Valid Values from <validation rule>

Specifies to copy valid values from the validation rule that is selected.

Note: This check box is only available if a validation rule with valid values is selected.

The New Validation Rule dialog closes and you are returned to the Validation Rules dialog.

  4. Click OK.

Valid values are copied from the selected validation rule into the new validation rule and the Validation Rules dialog closes.
