Test a Business Logic Formula
You can test and debug business logic formulas before contract activation. The Business Logic Scope section is where the formula is executed for the purposes of testing. When initially defined, the formula is tested in its entirety. Then, once it is applied to all the metrics as a module, it is important to run each metric in the Business Logic Scope at least once to see that it receives events (i.e. that the registration is correct) and it is producing a reasonable result.
Follow these steps:
- From the Service Level Mgmt tab, select Business Logic Scope. The Business Logic Scope window opens.
- From the Contract Party, Contract and Version lists, select the entity that contains the metric you want to test.
- From the Metric list, select the specific metric you want to test.
- In the Time range fields, enter the time range to be included in the formula calculation.
Note: You can select the dates from the calendar by clicking
.
- Click Version Dates to automatically enter the start and end dates for the selected contract version.
- From the Time unit list, select which time interval instance to calculate: hour, day, week, month, quarter, year, or the tracking period (the default is the tracking period of the metric).
- In the Ignore area, select the relevant check boxes to exclude corrections and/or exceptions from the calculation, if required.
For more information, on corrections to raw data and exceptions see Exceptions.
- Select which version of included Business Logic modules to use—preliminary or effective, if required. It is not required to select a version if Business Logic formula does not have any included modules.
- Click Run. The results are displayed in the Results tab.
- Click the Messages & Errors tab to view informational and error messages about the results of the test, if any.
- Click the Received Events tab to view a list of events received from other metrics.
- Click the Sent Events tab to view a list of events sent by the current SLO to other metrics.
Note: Event lists are read-only and are sorted by the event’s timestamp. The displayed fields are:
- Metric (source/destination)
- Resource
- Event type
- Event type fields (all)
- Event’s time stamp
- Event’s create date
- Event annotation
