Performing Pre-Upgrade Tasks

Important! For an AuthMinder deployment on a distributed system, perform the upgrade procedure on the system where the AuthMinder Server is installed.

Perform the following pre-upgrade tasks before you begin the upgrade procedure:

• Shut down the following servers:
  • AuthMinder Server
  • Application server where Administration Console and User Data Service are deployed.
• Ensure that you have JDK 1.5 or later installed on the system where you plan to upgrade.
• Ensure that the database on which you are performing the upgrade is available throughout the upgrade process.
• Ensure that the database on which you are performing the upgrade is not set up for replication. Disable database replication before the upgrade.
• Copy the contents of your existing ARCOT_HOME directory to a new directory.

  Here, ARCOT_HOME refers to the base directory that contains the entire directory structure that is created by the existing AuthMinder installation. Typically, for releases prior to release 6.x, ARCOT_HOME refers to <install_location>\Common Files\Arcot Shared\. From release 6.x onward, ARCOT_HOME refers to <install location>/Arcot Systems.

  Copy the entire contents of %ARCOT_HOME% to a new directory. This directory is referred to as ARCOT_HOME_BACKUP in this document.

  You will need this directory to revert to the initial setup if there are any errors during upgrade.

• Open the %ARCOT_HOME%\conf\arcotcommon.ini file in a text editor, and then perform the following steps:
  1. Ensure that the primary database details are correct. The upgrade tool uses the database that is configured in this file for the upgrade.
  2. If you have configured a backup database, then disable the backup database by commenting out the lines containing the following properties in the arcot/db/backupdb section of the arcotcommon.ini file:
     • URL.1
     • AppServerConnectionPoolName.1
     • Username.1
  3. Include the following section in the arcotcommon.ini file:

     [arcot/crypto/device]

     HSMDevice=S/W

  4. Save and close the arcotcommon.ini file.
• On IBM DB2, if you are upgrading from release 6.x, then set the SYSTEM TEMPORARY tablespace page size to a minimum of 16K. See database vendor documentation for more information.
• Back up the database containing the AuthMinder schema.
• Consult your DBA to configure your database according to the database volume requirements for AuthMinder.
• Ensure that you have sufficient database privileges to upgrade AuthMinder. For the complete list of privileges, see Database Privileges Required for Upgrade.
• If you have stored your user details in an LDAP repository in the previous release, ensure that the LDAP server is available throughout the upgrade process.
• Ensure that the %ARCOT_HOME% environment variable is set to the directory where AuthMinder is installed.
• If you have registered plug-ins with this AuthMinder installation, then save the AuthMinder startup log. This file is available in the %ARCOT_HOME%\logs directory, and it contains details of the plug-ins. After the upgrade, recompile the plug-ins.
