Policies - Performance Thresholds (Monitoring Device)

Set monitoring device incident thresholds to ensure that all of your monitoring devices are sending data to the management console. Depending on the type of monitoring device, you can configure additional thresholds for dropped or fragmented packets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Property Details

Complete the following fields:

Data Inactivity

Specifies a threshold value, from 15 minutes to 72 hours, for the minimum amount of time that a monitoring device must be inactive to create a Major monitoring device incident. This threshold applies to all monitoring devices.

To disable this threshold, clear the Trigger Incident check box.

Dropped Packets

Defines a threshold value for the percentage of packets dropped by the packet capture driver on the CA Standard Monitor or NI GigaStor during a 5-minute interval. Use this threshold to determine when a CA Standard Monitor or NI GigaStor is too busy to process all of the packets it receives on its Packets monitor feed. This threshold is only applicable to a CA Standard Monitor or NI GigaStor.

By default, if the packet capture driver on the CA Standard Monitor or NI GigaStor drops 5 percent of the packets it receives during a 5-minute interval, the management console creates a monitoring device incident.

To disable this threshold, clear the Trigger Incident check box.

Fragmented Packets

Specifies that you are to be notified when a CA Standard Monitor or NI GigaStor receives fragmented packets. By default, this threshold is disabled. This threshold is only applicable to a CA Standard Monitor or NI GigaStor.

To enable this threshold, select the Trigger Incident check box.
