Data Monitoring - Server Subnet Properties
View and manage the server subnet properties, for example, to exclude a particular server, or to specify a default network type for the /32 client networks that the management console automatically creates from matching server traffic.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How should I define a server subnet? Add server subnets that closely align with your server VLAN definitions. A properly-defined server subnet provides the management console with the flexibility that is required to keep a user-defined application up-to-date. When you assign a server subnet to an application, the management console monitors the application as the servers which host the application change.
- Why add an exclusion to a server subnet? To prevent the management console from monitoring particular servers that match the specified server subnet, add an exclusion.
- Why does the management console add matching servers in the Network List? To enable the management console to monitor a multi-tier application where a server initiates client requests to another server, the management console automatically creates a /32 client network for each IPv4 server, respectively. When a monitoring device observes server traffic that matches a specified server subnet, the management console automatically adds the server to the Server List and adds a /32 client network, with the network type you specify, to the Network List.
Property Details
Complete the following fields:
- Server Subnet Name
-
Lists details about the server subnet, such as the server VLAN traffic that can be monitored by the server subnet.
- IP address and subnet mask
-
Specifies the range of server IP addresses to monitor:
- IPv4 server subnet
-
Use the following format for IPv4 addresses: x.x.x.x/n, where x.x.x.x is the IPv4 subnet address in dotted notation and n is the number of bits to use for the mask.
- Network Type
-
(Optional) Specifies the network type that you want the management console to assign to corresponding /32 client networks that are created from matching server traffic.
If you do not specify a network type, it is set to Unassigned.
- Exclusions
-
(Optional) View and manage the list of server exclusions for the server subnet. All monitoring devices ignore traffic on the server subnet that matches an exclusion. Edit a server subnet to add an exclusion; you cannot add an exclusion when you add a server subnet.
- Add Exclusion
-
(Optional) Click to add an exclusion to filter a range of server IP address from the specified server subnet. For example, add an exclusion to filter the 191.168.2.2/32 server from the 191.168.2.0/24 server subnet.
