Volumes

Each volume configuration on the appliance boundary is provided to the appliance as a block device. The APK auto mounts all volumes in the appliance file system using the mount points provided in the boundary configuration.

The auto mount capability can be disabled using the apk_config_automount option. For additional information, refer to the Customize Appliance Behavior in Linux or Windows.

By default, volumes are mounted in the appliance file system in the following locations:

• In Linux, under /mnt/[volume] or /mnt/content
• In Windows, as sequence drive letters starting with /c:

To better support legacy virtual machine images, most volumes have a single partition per volume in, although the APK understands multi-partition volumes as well.

Notes:

• No mandatory volume that is not configured will be auto mounted. If not configured, the volume is skipped and there will be no auto mount point.
• Read only volumes will be auto mounted as read only in the file system and their block device area as read only.
• In HVM and Windows appliances, where the OS does not support read only hard drives, CA AppLogic emulates the read only hardware while providing a scratch pad and mounting the read only volume.
• In all cases, the appliance cannot modify read only volumes.
• Remote file systems and server appliances, such as Web6 and Tomcat, have the ability to auto mount a network file system. The network file systems are not considered volumes and the process of mounting is not performed in the APK, but is left to the appliance developer.

  By convention, network file systems are mounted under:

  • Linux - /mnt/[terminalname] es /mnt /fs for the filesystem connected to the fs terminal on web6
  • Windows – on the next available drive letter
  • IIS – fs file system
• Counters for volume will report statistics if one partition is present or no partitions are present. Volume counters do not report for multi partitions.
