Design Appliance

Prior to creating appliances, you should begin the planning process by creating a class datasheet and class test plan as deliverables with your appliance. This allows you to set the end goals of the development project and tie the technical terms used throughout the development phase directly to the deliverables.

The class datasheet or class documentation must be created for each class. The class documentation describes the technical details of the appliance class to developers who will build applications and to administrators who maintain it.

The datasheet becomes a working document where you add and update information as you create your appliance. Typically, a completed datasheet contains:

Additionally, the class test plan document provides guidance for quality assurance and support teams who use the test plan for hands-on validation of a deployed instance. In addition, an optional class implemented design document could include step-by-step instructions on rebuilding the appliance.

For a reference, you can view current class datasheets in the Appliance Catalog Reference or Marketplace Catalog Reference. You may also want to review the Application Catalog Reference.
