Branching of a class allows you to create a new singleton class for your appliance using an existing template class rather than creating the new appliance from scratch. This is especially useful when you want to add additional functionality to an existing class, such as upgrade to a newer version or provide additional capabilities.
To branch a class, either:
Select the class instance, then right click and select Branch Class from the context menu or
Click the Appliance menu item and select Branch Class.
The Class Branch window displays the percentage completion for each volume displays.
Once you have created, configured, and tested the new singleton class, you can then drag it into a catalog. The global catalog allows other applications to use the new class, while the local catalog allows the class to be instantiable by your application. This allows multiple instances of the class can be used in the application.
For information on how to create a new singleton class, refer to either the Branch a Generic Appliance section or the Branch an Appliance with Similar Functionality section of the Appliance Developer Guide.
