Deploy CA Strong Authentication on a Single System

Use the CA Strong Authentication 8.0 InstallAnywhere Wizard to install CA Strong Authentication components. This Wizard supports Complete and Custom installation types. However, to install and configure CA Strong Authentication on a single computer, use the Complete option when you run the installer.

The following list provides a quick overview of the process:

1. Execute the CA Strong Authentication installer to add CA Strong Authentication components to your file-system and configure them to access your SQL database.

   See "Performing Complete Installation" for install instructions.

2. Execute the database scripts to create schema and database tables. Verify that the database setup was successful.

   See "Running Database Scripts" and "Verifying the Database Setup" for more information.

3. Prepare the application server to copy the files that CA Web components use.

   See "Preparing Your Application Server" for more information.

4. Deploy CA Advanced Authentication on the application server and verify the deployment.

   See "Deploying CA Advanced Authentication" and "Verifying CA Advanced Authentication" for more information.

5. Log in to CA Advanced Authentication as the Master Administrator to initialize CA Strong Authentication.

   See "Logging In to CA Advanced Authentication" and "Bootstrapping the System" for more information.

6. Start the CA Strong Authentication Server and verify if the service starts successfully.

   See "Starting CA Strong Authentication Server" and "Verifying the Installation" for more information.

7. Deploy User Data Service on the application server and verify the deployment.

   See "Deploying User Data Service" for more information.

8. Deploy and use Sample Application to test CA Strong Authentication configuration.

   Note: Sample Application is automatically installed as a part of Complete installation.

9. (Optional) To ensure secure communication between CA Strong Authentication components, you can configure them to support SSL (Secure Socket Layer) transport mode.

   See appendix, "Configuring SSL" in CA Strong Authentication Administration Guide for more information.

10. Complete the installation checklist.

Important Notes Related to the Installation

Keep the following points in mind while installing CA Strong Authentication either on a single system or in a distributed environment:

• Ensure that the <install_location> must not contain any special characters (such as ~ ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + = { }[ ] ’ ").
• Currently, you cannot modify or repair CA Strong Authentication components by using the installer. Uninstall the component and then re-install it.
• Do not close the installer window, if the installation is in progress. If at any time during installation (especially during the last stages), if you click the Cancel button to abort the installation, then the installer might not remove all the directories it has created so far. Manually clean up the installation directory, <install_location>\Arcot Systems\ and its subdirectories.
• If you run the installer on a system that already contains an instance of an existing %ARCOT_HOME%, then:
  • You will not be prompted for an installation directory.
  • You will not be prompted for the database set up. The Installer will use the existing database.
  • You will also not be prompted to set up encryption.

The CA Strong Authentication installer supports the following types of installation. Use the Complete installation for single-system deployment.

1. Complete - Installs all CA Strong Authentication components on a single system.
2. Custom - Installs the CA Strong Authentication components that you select.
