Using Different Versions of VDDK for VMware Backups

Valid on Windows operating systems.

Symptom:

Arcserve Backup is packaged with the default binaries for VDDK 5.1. When you install a different version of VDDK, change the VDDK installed location in the registry manually. Otherwise, the VMware backups are going to use VDDK 5.1 instead of the version that you installed.

Solution:

To remedy this problem, perform the following steps:

1. Open the registry.
2. Navigate to the following location:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ComputerAssociates\CA ARCserve Backup\ClientAgent\Parameters

3. Specify VDDKDirectory as the Value Name.
4. Change the "ValueData" field to the location where the latest VDDK version is installed.

The location in the registry is updated.
