Write Inactivity Period Field

This is the default value applied to all files unless modified by a specific entry in the Files tab of the Configuration screen. This value is applied to the selected server.

The Agent for Open Files uses the Write Inactivity Period, specified in seconds, to determine when it is safe for a client to access an open file. The Agent for Open Files continues trying to establish an inactivity period of the required duration until the File Sync Timeout is exceeded.

For example, if the Write Inactivity Period is set to 5 seconds, the agent waits until it sees no write activity for 5 seconds before determining that it is safe for a client to backup the file.

Another method of determining when it is safe for a client to access an open file is the Auto Sense method. Only NetWare users can choose between using the Auto Sense method and the Write Inactivity method.
