Masking is substituting a special character to represent any character or a range of characters. Masking in CA ACF2 Option for DB2 rules lets you write one rule that provides access:
CA ACF2 supports two masking characters: the asterisk (*) and the dash (-). Where masking is permitted, CA ACF2 Option for DB2 accepts the following conventions. The exceptions are explained in the following sections.

An asterisk represents a single character that is not a blank or a null. You can use it at any position in a mask. However, if you place an asterisk at the end of a mask, all characters including blanks and nulls match. |

A dash specifies zero or more characters at the end of a mask. Do not place a dash in a mask. CA ACF2 Option for DB2 processes any records that match the characters specified before the dash. You can also use a dash as a standalone character to match all values for the parameter. |
