What Is the CAIENF Component?
CA ACF2 Option for DB2 uses a CA Technologies common component called CAIENF (Event Notification Facility), which is a component of CA Common Services for z/OS. CAIENF enables CA products that require detailed interaction with IBM software to intercept key events in a common, release‑independent way. It centralizes the intercept needs of CA ACF2 Option for DB2 and provides event notification for all DB2 authorization checks.
CAIENF provides the following benefits:
- CAIENF isolates exposure to IBM release‑dependent processing. This isolation keeps CA ACF2 Option for DB2 independent from the underlying IBM architecture and eliminates the need to update it due to an IBM change.
- CAIENF can improve the overall reliability of CA ACF2 Option for DB2. CAIENF functions without affecting the overall performance of the IBM system. With CAIENF, CA ACF2 Option for DB2 does not require any intercepts or other code that executes in privileged modes. In the case of problems that are internal to CAIENF, built‑in error detection and recovery logic are included to intercept and isolate programming errors while processing an event.
- You can more quickly exploit new technologies in a large number of CA products. This approach enables all CA products to benefit from new technologies by upgrading the CAIENF component.
The following illustration shows how CAIENF interacts with DB2 and CA ACF2 Option for DB2.
