Use the TMSUPDTE batch update utility to do the following:
TMSUPDTE gives you the ability to update a single volume or a range of volumes without affecting the scratch bit. You can correct a bad internal VOLSER or assign EDMIDs for the entire TMC using a single set of VER/REP control statements. Using the mass update function of TMSUPDTE, you can select volumes for processing from a range of volumes to be processed based on the VER control statement, and identify the changes to be made using the REP control statements.
To resolve a NOT SCRATCH 28 error condition, you must reset the data set name on the Volume record. In most cases, the tape can be returned directly to the scratch pool because the status of the record has not been affected. TMSUPDTE does not allow a FLAG1 update to change the status of a tape to scratch or delete. For the scratch or delete bit to be on, it must have been set prior to the update.
CA 1 must be active or batch active to run TMSUPDTE.
Important! If the volumes being updated by TMSUPDTE need to be processed by TMSEXPDT to assign the proper retention, TMSEXPDT should be run prior to the TMSUPDTE step for the volumes records to be properly updated by TMSEXPDT. The control statement NOINTAL can also be used to indicate that the internal field was manually updated bit in FLAG1 should not be turned on.
