Use the TMSOSCAT utility to determine the differences between the TMC and the operating system catalog.
The catalogs to be compared are sorted by data set name or volume serial number, depending on the RS or SEQUENCE option. TMSOSCAT can report on tapes controlled by EDM. TMSOSCAT bypasses tapes owned by CA Dynam/T.
To compare the ICF catalog to the TMC, an IDCAMS step is added to the procedure to list all of your catalogs. The output from IDCAMS is used as input to the TMSOSCAT step in the IDCAMS DD.
Four fields are compared from each database: data set name, VOLSER, volume sequence and file sequence. An additional check for matching data set names can be performed by specifying the LOCATE=YES control statement. This allows TMSOSCAT to determine if a data set not found on the catalog listing was posted to the system catalog after the list was generated. TMSOSCAT treats any file cataloged with a file sequence of zero the same as file sequence of one.
The TMC and system catalog do not have to be synchronized to perform tape processing, but synchronization will prevent error conditions from occurring, such as the system catalog not reflecting the content of the tape header label or conflicts between the TMC and system catalog, which result in system or CA 1 abends.
In addition to reporting on the difference between the TMC and the operating system catalogs, TMSOSCAT can also be used to ensure the new TMISCAT in TMC FLAG4 X'08' and DSNBISCA in DSNB FLAG1 X'08' bits are set on for all files currently cataloged. This usage of TMSOSCAT should be done once on each system sometime after upgrading to r12. Until this has been done on all systems sharing the TMC, the new TMOOPT option, OCTLG, should be left as YES (the default). Once TMSOSCAT has been run to SYNC the operating system catalogs and the TMC on all systems sharing the TMC and AUDIT files, the OCTLG option can be changed to NO.
To run TMSOSCAT so that the new flag bits are set correctly, no IDCAMS input is accepted and the SYSIN control statements are ignored as well. Simply include a parameter of SYNC or SYNC,TEST. If TEST is included, no actual updates are performed, but the total line stating how many TMC records would have been updated is produced. If SYNC is used without TEST, then the total line states how many TMC records were updated.
CA 1 must be active or batch active to run TMSOSCAT.
