Use the TMSLBLPR utility to generate external gummed label requests.
All label requests are processed by the Online Label Interface. For complete information on the Online Label Interface see the Administration Guide.
The information for the labels is derived from Audit data set records created during CA 1 realtime tape tracking. In multi-CPU environments, this allows labels to be generated from a single source for tape volumes used by systems that share the Audit data set.
TMSLBLPR periodically scans the Audit data set to determine if new records exist that indicate a label should be produced. A user exit, TMSXITL, may be called from TMSLBLPR to provide the means for creating labels on a selective basis. If this exit is not used, TMSLBLPR will produce a label request when:
If the exit is invoked, it must define the type of Audit record and any other site-defined criteria that must be met for a label to be generated. Generally, this means that the record is a Type 2 Audit record. The first 340 bytes of a Type 2 Audit record that does not contain X'FF' in the first byte is the image of a TMC volume record. Any field within the record may be used to determine whether a label should be generated. See the Programming Guide for complete information on the coding of TMSXITL.
TMSLBLPR can be executed as a started task or as a batch program. Once it has scanned the Audit data set to the most recently created Audit record, TMSLBLPR turns itself off for a parameter-driven period of time. When this period expires, TMSLBLPR turns itself on again and picks up the Audit information from the point at which it previously ceased processing. If executed as a started task, TMSLBLPR continues to execute until the console operator issues the system STOP command. If executed as a batch program, TMSLBLPR will continue to execute until the system CANCEL command is issued.
CA 1 should be active, but may be batch active, to run TMSLBLPR.
Note: TMSLBLPR does not support a BLOCKSET mode audit data set.
