FORMAT AUDIT Control Statement

FORMAT AUDIT=nnnnnnn[,BLOCKSET]

Control Statement Definition

FORMAT

Specifies the control statement function. FORMAT can begin in any position and must be followed by a space.

AUDIT=nnnnnnn

Specifies that the Audit data set is to be formatted. The value of nnnnnnn is the total number of records to be formatted in the Audit data set. This number should be based on the amount of DASD space allocated. See the Installation Guide for instructions on calculating this number.

Note: The THAUDT parameter in hlq.CTAPOPTN specifies the percentage of Audit records which can be used before warning messages for backup are issued. The default value for THAUDT is 80 percent.

BLOCKSET

Specifies that the Audit data set is to be formatted for the BLOCKSET mode. The audit data set formats in complete blocks. Control record 4 and a new control records 5 occupy the first block. The first available audit record starts in the second block. The number of records specified by AUDIT=nnnnnn is round up to a complete block. An extra block of records is added to contain the control records.

Note: CA 1 programs will recognize this format and process the audit data set in "BLOCKSET mode".

Example:

This control statement example will format the Audit data set with 1000 records.

FORMAT AUDIT=1000

If the Audit threshold is set at 85 percent in hlq.CTAPOPTN, after 850 records are used, the operator is prompted with the IEFTMS9, AUDIT FILE UTILIZATION IS CURRENTLY nn% message for each percentage of utilization until the condition clears.

FORMAT AUDIT=1000,BLOCKSET

If the Audit data set was allocated with a BLKSIZE=4440, it would be formatted for BLOCKSET mode and contain 1020 records. A BLKSIZE of 4440 can contain 12 audit records so the 1000 records requested would be rounded up to 1020 to make all blocks 4440 bytes long. Then an additional block would be added to contain control records 5 and 4.
