TMSCLNOA Utility—Clean and Mark Out-of-Area

Use the TMSCLNOA utility to mark volumes that need to be cleaned and sent off-site.

This is an optional step that can be run after TMSCLEAN, and before the CA Earl reports. This 3592 WORM cartridges cannot be processed by TMSCLNOA, because they are not scratched by TMSCLEAN. Sometimes it may be convenient to send tapes to an out-of-area location as they are marked scratch (for example, a date entry system located on a non-MVS controlled system). Once marked out-of-area by TMSCLNOA, these tapes are automatically checked in when used for input on the CA 1 controlled system.

It may be desired to control which volumes need to be cleaned based on:

• the number of uses since the last cleaning
• the number of days since the last cleaning
• a target value has been reached for any of the 4 error conditions since the last cleaning which include:
  • temporary write errors
  • temporary read errors
  • permanent write errors
  • permanent read errors

With the control statements, you may AND together or OR together any combination of cleaning criteria.

CA 1 must be active or batch-active to run TMSCLNOA to update the volume records. If TMSCLNOA is run with a PARM=TEST, CA 1 may be inactive, batch-active or active.
