TMSAGGR Utility—Maintain Data Set Name Blocks

Use the TMSAGGR utility to maintain Data Set Name Blocks (DSNBs) containing information on secondary files that are associated with the Volume record.

TMSAGGR cannot be used for tapes controlled by an External Data Manager (EDM). The program builds DSNBs to facilitate the initial creation of a TMC to store information on secondary data sets. When DSNBs are found to be in error, the utility can be executed to correct TMC records that have invalid DSNB data associated with them, or to generate new DSNBs to be associated with a Volume record to accommodate off-site processing. The utility TMSUDSNB can be used to correct fields in DSNB records.

CA 1 does not require DSNBs to be associated with a volume to read secondary files for input. However, DSNBs are required if you want to add additional files to a volume or append data (DISP=MOD) to the last file currently on a volume.

It is not necessary to purge DSNBs from a volume that you want to expire and go scratch; if File 1 is manually expired, the TMSCLEAN utility allows the volume to go scratch even if DSNBs with a higher expiration date are present on the volume.

CA 1 must be active or batch active to run TMSAGGR.
