CA Vtape Virtual Tape System CA 1 Interface
Be aware of the following when setting up an interface between CA Vtape Virtual Tape System and CA 1:
- You must define an exclusive range of virtual volumes in the TMC to be used by CA Vtape Virtual Tape System.
- CA Vtape Virtual Tape System writes virtual volumes to the physical container volume during externalization processing as secondary files. A DSNB record is used for each virtual volume written. Extend the TMC to define.
- DSNBs are not freed until all virtual volumes on the physical tape are expired.
- The CA Vtape Virtual Tape System RECYCLE utility can be run to recover fragmented physical tape space by copying active virtual volumes to new backstore tapes. This process also frees up DSNBs.
- CA 1 can report on the physical volumes externalized and the virtual volume to physical volume mapping. CA 1 CTAPECPB member TMEVTINV can be executed to create this report. This information is important in disaster recovery planning.
Note: For more information about the interface between CA Vtape Virtual Tape System and CA 1, see the CA Vtape Virtual Tape System Configuration Guide.
