Volume serial ranges that are retrieved from the remote backup servers must be defined to CA 1 and must be marked as DTS tapes. Tapes are marked as DTS tapes by using TMSUPDTE to set FLAG5=40. DTS tapes may also be referred to as Agent tapes. The ranges should be used for distributed systems only, and should not be shared with mainframe applications.
Note: It is important that you use care and ensure that duplicate volume serial number ranges are not used by different distributed backup systems.
