APEC Commands

Commands are sent to APEC using the CTS Message command (MSG), and can be issued at any time while TMSAPEC is active.

Commands issued to the APEC subtask have the following format:

F CTS,MSG APEC,command
STOP

Stops all scans, closes all files, and terminates the APEC task. Scanning will not restart until the APEC task is restarted. See the note following the example.

CANCEL

Requests that the APEC task cancel itself with a USER-111 abend. All scans are stopped and all files are closed. Scanning will not be restarted until the APEC task is restarted. See the note following the example.

SCAN

Starts one scan of the TMC.

HALT

Stops all scans and closes the TMC. A scan stopped by HALT cannot be RESUMED. Scanning of the TMC will restart at the next scheduled start time and will start from the beginning of the TMC. See the note following the example.

PAUSE

Pauses a scan, during which time the TMC remains open and the scan can be restarted from the point at which it was stopped.

RESUME

Restarts a scan that has been paused. RESUME can only restart a scan that was stopped by a PAUSE; it cannot restart a scan that was stopped by a HALT.

STATUS

Displays status information in one CTS log about the state of the APEC task and displays all parameters that have been set.

Example: Status information

ACTIVE - NOT SCANNING
NOUPDATE
DELAY: 0.05 SECOND
START TIME: 18:00
END TIME: 21:45
# OF SCANS IN WINDOW: 03
# OF SCANS STARTED: 00000002
# OF SCANS COMPLETED: 00000001
# OF ERRORS FOUND BY LAST SCAN: 00000004
# OF ERRORS FIXED BY LAST SCAN: 00000002
TOTAL ERRORS FOUND SINCE APEC STARTED: 00000001
TOTAL ERRORS FIXED SINCE APEC STARTED: 00000001
APEC STARTED: 05:57:11
WAITING

Note: If a scan of the TMC does not complete and NOUPDATE was specified, the control statements for TMSUPDTE, TMSUDSNB, and TMSAGGR may not have been created successfully. Do not use an incomplete set of control statements for these utilities.
