The following procedures are recommended if a tape has hard fails or excessive soft fails.
To be applicable to all users, these procedures do not distinguish between types of failures. Excessive soft fails tend to become hard fails quickly, and burst errors are sometimes accompanied by other serious problems on the tape. Use the following only as guidelines in establishing your own procedures.
