With AIVS processing, CA 1® Tape Management can track foreign and duplicate volumes. Foreign volumes are created outside of CA 1® Tape Management control. Duplicate volumes have volume serial numbers which conflict with numbers already defined to CA 1® Tape Management. Duplicate volumes have been created on another CA 1® Tape Management system merging its TMC with an existing TMC.
AIVS support is provided in CA 1® Tape Management by recording the internal or actual volume serial number (ACTVOL) from the tape header. When an AIVS tape is to be opened for input processing, the JCL VOL=SER= parameter or system catalog entry for the file must refer to the external volume serial number. The mount message that is issued contains both the external and actual volume serial number that is obtained from the TMC volume record.
AIVS tape support is read-only. The tape allows foreign and duplicate volumes to be used and tracked by CA 1® Tape Management without copying to a CA 1® Tape Management controlled volume. If an AIVS tape is to be reused, it must be initialized with an actual volume serial number equal to the external volume serial number.
AIVS tapes are defined to CA 1® Tape Management either by directly entering the foreign tape information through a new ISPF facility or by executing the TMSMERGE utility. The utility merges another TMC with duplicate volume serial numbers.
