Report on Tape Status in the TMC

Various inventory, audit, specific inquiry, and customized reports can be created with CA 1 batch utilities and CA Earl. Typically, several of these programs are included in the normal CA 1 daily batch maintenance cycle.

For example, inventories of all active volumes by data set name and volume serial number, an audit report listing all CA 1 NOT SCRATCH dismounts, and perhaps an inventory of all tapes marked out-of-area can be created with the normal scratch list and vault management reports.

To generate these reports to a DASD file, the TMSRPT DD (used for some CA 1 output) must use a disposition of MOD. Some CA 1 utilities open and close the report file several times during the creation of the output.
