The expiration date in the TMC is posted during OPEN processing but the system catalog entry is posted after step termination. TMSCTLG provides a two-day hold limit to protect long-running tape jobs from expiring prematurely.
If TMSCTLG cannot find an entry in the system catalog but the data set in question is less than two days old and has not been read for input using the system catalog to retrieve the VOLSER (the X'80' bit in FLAG2 is off), the data set is not removed from Catalog Control.
Note: The two day hold also applies when OCTLG is set to NO. TMSCLEAN honors the same two-day hold.
