Failed to contact tape server - communication error

Reason:

This error can be caused by one or more of the following reasons:

For each of the causes check the following:

  1. Verify the existence of the remote server.
  2. Check the server memory. To do so, follow these steps:
    1. Enter LOAD MONITOR from the server console.
    2. Select Resource Utilization from the Available Options menu.
    3. If the cache buffer percentage is very low (below 30%), your server is probably low on memory.
    4. To free memory, unload any NLMs that are not required.
    5. Enter ASTOP from the server console to stop BrightStor ARCserve Backup.
    6. Enter ASTART from the server console to restart BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

If you receive this error again, restart the file server. In addition, consider purchasing more memory for the file server.
