Welcome to Unicenter® System Watchdog for OpenVMS r2.4 SP3. This file contains product installation considerations, operating system support, and information about contacting Customer Support.
The following component configurations are supported in Unicenter System Watchdog for OpenVMS r2.4 SP3.
This service pack does not support the following:
HP has indicated that Prior Version Support (PVS) will not be offered for either OpenVMS Alpha 7.3 or 7.3-1. While this service pack supports OpenVMS Alpha 7.3 and 7.3-1, if CA Support determines that any particular problem is operating system related and found to be fixed in either OpenVMS Alpha 7.3-2 or any HP provided ECO kits to OpenVMS Alpha 7.3-2, CA may require that the user upgrade their systems to OpenVMS Alpha 7.3-2 and install any applicable OpenVMS ECO kits provided by HP. To view the OpenVMS PVS roadmaps, visit one of the following HP web-sites:
For America/Asia-Pacific http://www.hp.com/hps/os/os_pvs_amap.html
For Europe http://www.hp.com/hps/os/os_pvs_eur.html
For the versions of OpenVMS supported by this service pack, the minimum supported configurations listed in the applicable OpenVMS Software Product Description (available from HP) may or may not be adequate. If you notice poor performance with these minimal configurations, your system may need tuning or may need additional memory or disk storage.

This section contains general information you should know before using Unicenter System Watchdog for OpenVMS r2.4 SP3.
Unicenter System Watchdog for OpenVMS r2.4 SP3 upgrades the CA Licensing component to the latest version known as ALP. Due to policy changes within ALP, if you install this service pack onto a system where any V2.4 Enterprise Edition product is also installed (AdviseIT, CommandIT, or ScheduleIT), those products may fail to work properly if there is no valid license installed for them. Before installing the service pack, you should examine the contents of the following file to verify the existence of valid license keys for any V2.4 Enterprise Edition products already installed on the system:-
SYS$SPECIFIC:[CA_LIC]CA.OLF
The following instructions are included with Execution Keys (license keys) that you receive from CA TLC after logging a service request. They are included here for reference only:
To apply this key, follow these steps:
Windows: C:\CA_LIC or C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\CA_LIC
Unix, Linux, or Mac: /opt/CA/ca_lic or /opt/CA/SharedComponents/ca_lic
OpenVMS: CA$LICENSE:[CA_LIC]

Note: The "FEATURE" line may wrap to a second line on this certificate, but you must enter it on a single line with no carriage return in the ca.olf flie.
Use of this ALP (Automated License Program) Key Certificate and the applicable Licensed Program is limited to the Licensee specified above, pursuant to the terms of its applicable Agreement with CA. If you received this ALP Key Certificate in error, please return it to CA immediately at 1 Computer Associates Plaza, Islandia, N.Y. 11749-7000, ATTN: TLC Department.
Contact CA Total License Care for assistance if you have any question about the validity of any license key.
Computer Associates has changed the product version scheme. The official version of this release of Unicenter System Watchdog for OpenVMS is r2.4 SP3. This version is the same as V2.4-0510.
When installing the prior versions of Unicenter System Watchdog-- WatchIT or Unicenter TNG Event Manager--if the following installation questions were answered as shown:
* Do you want this software to start right after the installation [YES]? NO * Do you want to run the IVP after the installation [YES]? NO * Do you want to activate the Unicenter Common Services Integration Components? [YES]? YES
The product would have been started and left in a running state upon completion of the installation procedure.
The installation behavior has been changed so that Unicenter System Watchdog will not be started if the above questions are answered as shown.
Be aware that if the following question is answered YES
* Do you want to run the IVP after the installation? [YES]?
Unicenter System Watchdog will be started and left in a running state. This is because the product must be started in order to run the Installation Verification Procedure (IVP).
The following fixes and behavioral changes are included in this service pack. Where applicable, the published PTF number is specified before the description of the fix:

The installation of PTF QO54848 will fail when
being installed onto a Unicenter Management station

Each PDF guide in a documentation set has a unique Document ID (DID) that appears on the title page of the guide. The DID uses the first six characters to identify the guide, a hyphen, then two characters at the end to identify the edition and language in which it is written. For example, xxxxxx-1E identifies the first edition of the English version of the Unicenter System Watchdog for OpenVMS r2.4 SP3 Installation Guide. When the second edition of this guide is published, the DID is incremented to xxxxxx-2E.
The DID is used without the hyphen for the .PDF file on the product media and on SupportConnect as shown in File Name column of the following table.
The DIDs and file names for this product's guides are:
| Guide Name | DID | File Name |
|---|---|---|
| Unicenter System Watchdog for OpenVMS Installation Guide | J00782-1E | J007821E.PDF |
| Unicenter System Watchdog for OpenVMS Administration Guide | J00784-1E | J007841E.PDF |
| CA Common Services for OpenVMS Integration Guide | J00783-1E | J007831E.PDF |
The DID for this readme file appears under the readme title; the same DID without the hyphen is used for the readme file name on SupportConnect.
