Welcome to BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1. This Readme file contains important information to help you with your implementation of the product, including installation considerations, operating system information, known issues, and how to contact Computer Associates Customer Support.

This service pack is cumulative, as is this readme. Information related specifically to this service pack has been identified separately from information originally included in the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5. For information included in the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5, see the sections following the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 Readme section.

2.0 Operating System Support

The following section provides information about the supported operating systems for BrightStor ARCserve Backup components added for this release.

For information about the operating systems supported from BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5, see the section Operating System Support for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.

2.1 Supported Operating Systems for the Disk Staging Option

The BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup Disk Staging Option is supported on the following operating systems:

• Solaris 8, 9, and 10 SPARC

• IBM AIX 5L v5.1, v5.2, and v5.3

• HP-UX 11.0, 11.11, and 11.23 PA RISC

• HP-UX 11.22 and 11.23 Itanium (IA64)

• Tru64 5.1a and 5.1b

2.2 Supported Operating Systems for the Agent for Informix

The supported operating systems for the BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup Agent for Informix have been updated for this service pack. You can install the agent on the following operating systems:

• Solaris SPARC 7, 8, and 9

• IBM AIX 4.3.3, 5L v5.1, 5L v5.2, and v5.3

• HP-UX 11.0, 11.11, and 11.23 PA RISC

  Note: The Agent supports Informix Dynamic Server 10 only on HP-UX IA64 platforms.

• Tru64 v5.1A and v5.1B

  Note: The agent does not support Tru64 v4.0F

2.3 Supported Operating Systems for the Client Agent for UNIX

The supported operating systems for the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Client Agent for UNIX have been updated for this service pack to add the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Agent for FreeBSD. The agent now supports the following:

• Solaris 2.6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 SPARC

• Solaris 9 and 10 (x86 32-bit)

• Solaris 10 AMD64

• IBM AIX 4.3.3, 5L v5.1, v5.2, and v5.3

• HP-UX 11.0, 11.11, and 11.23 PA RISC

• HP-UX 11.22 and 11.23 Itanium (IA64)

• Tru64 v4.0E, v4.0F, v4.0G, v5.0, v5.1, v5.1a, v5.1b

• FreeBSD version 4.11

• FreeBSD versions 5.3 and 5.4

3.0 System Requirements

The following sections provide information about the minimum system requirements for each new BrightStor ARCserve Backup component.

For information originally released with BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 and included in this release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1, see the section System Requirements for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.

3.1 Disk Staging Option

The following sections identify the minimum system requirements for the Disk Staging Option.

Solaris SPARC

The option requires, at minimum, the following on Solaris SPARC:

• 256 MB RAM

• 400 MB hard disk space on the BrightStor ARCserve Backup installation file system

• 500 MB hard disk space (temporary) on /var/tmp file systems

IBM AIX

The option requires, at minimum, the following on IBM AIX:

• RISC 6000 models

• 256 MB RAM

• 400 MB hard disk space on the BrightStor ARCserve Backup installation file system

• 500 MB hard disk space (temporary) on /var/tmp file systems

Note: If you are using the Emulex LP9802 FC card or the IBM 6239 FC card with IBM AIX version 5.2, you must install IBM patch 520002 before using BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

HP-UX

The option requires, at minimum, the following on HP-UX:

• HP-UX 9000 workstation or server

• 256 MB RAM

• 400 MB hard disk space on the BrightStor ARCserve Backup installation file system

• 500 MB hard disk space (temporary) on /var/tmp file systems

Note: To install the iSponsor and iGateway components on HP-UX, the minimum requirement for the HP-UX kernel parameter max_thread_proc is 128.

Tru64

The option requires, at minimum, the following on Tru64:

• 256 MB RAM

• 400 MB hard disk space on the BrightStor ARCserve Backup installation file system

• 500 MB hard disk space (temporary) on /var/tmp file systems

3.2 Agent for Lotus Domino

You can now use the BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup Agent for Lotus Domino on Lotus Domino 7.0. However, DB2 cannot be enabled when using the agent on Lotus Domino 7.0.

4.0 Installation Considerations

The following sections provide information to consider when installing BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

For information originally released with BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 and included in this release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1, see the section Installation Considerations for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.

• We strongly recommend that you do not configure file system devices in volumes that contain the BrightStor ARCserve Backup installation directory. When the installation directory and file system devices are on the same volume and the disk becomes full, backup jobs fail and BrightStor ARCserve Backup may not be able to record information in the Activity log.

  If the disk becomes full in the volume, increase the amount of free disk space as soon as possible.

• If you are running Unicenter® Network and Systems Management r3.1, you must manually uninstall the version of ARCserveIT installed on your machine before you install BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP1.

5.0 General Considerations

For information about general information to consider for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5, see the section General Considerations for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.

The following section provides information to consider when using this release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1:

• BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1 supports the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Linux r11.5 SP1 Agent for Novell Open Enterprise Server.

• The maximum pathname length is 500 bytes. Previously, the maximum length was 256 bytes.

• The Agent for Oracle has been updated to remove the requirement to supply the correct host name when registering Agent for Oracle nodes in the BrightStor ARCserve Backup database.

6.0 Known Issues

The following sections provide information about issues known to exist in this release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1.

For information about issues known to exist in BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5, see the section Known Issues for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.

• If you use the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX server with the Client Agent for Windows and you have changed the default setting of the WRITE_CATALOG_FILE value to False, Windows agent files with pathnames longer than 500 bytes may not display correctly after you merge the session. However, this does not affect the success of Restore by Session or Restore by Filesystem operations.

7.0 Documentation Changes

For information about changes to the documentation for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5, see the section Documentation Changes for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.

The following section provides information about items that have not yet been changed in the product documentation for BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1, but that affect the information in that documentation:

• The online help topics Backup Manager Command - ca_backup and Restore Manager Command - ca_restore state that the following types of databases are supported for the -database switch:

  "Supported, valid database types are: INFORMIX, ORACLE, ORACLE8, ORACLERMAN, ORACLE_AS66, SAP, SYBASE, and INGRES."

  These topics should state the following:

  "Supported, valid database types are: INFORMIX, ORACLE, ORACLE8, ORACLERMAN, ORACLE_AS66, SYBASE, and INGRES."

  You cannot back up or restore SAP databases using the ca_backup and ca_restore commands. These commands support SAP database backup and restore only using the SAP backint utility.

• Information about the filesystem switch for the ca_restore command does not currently appear in the ca_restore Usage section of the appendix "Using Command Line Utilities" in the Administrator Guide. The ca_restore Source Arguments section of the ca_restore Usage section should contain the following item:

  Option: -filesystem [<hostname>]

  Description: Specifies the filesystem on a given host for the restore job. This switch can appear multiple times in a ca_restore command and must appear for each filesystem to be restored.

• In the Administrator Guide, the online help, and the manpages, the ca_dbadmin example for the -gen_script option is incorrect. Currently, the definition contains the following:

  "For example: sqlingres <maintain_script.sql>"

  This should be changed to the following:

  "For example: sqlingres <maintain_script.sql"

• In the Backup Options section and in the File Retry/Sharing Options section of the chapter "Backing Up Data," the Administrator Guide states the following:

  "In order to have the file retry function available, you must have the -I parameter included in the Client Agent Configuration File (uag.cfg)."

  The statement is incorrect. You must include the following parameter in the Client Agent Configuration File (uag.cfg):

• Although the tapecopy command now supports copying Novell Open Enterprise Server sessions, the tapecopy section of the appendix "Using Command Line Utilities" in the Administrator Guide does not currently reflect this support. The Administrator Guide provides the following information for the tapecopy command option -qType <backup session type>:

  TYPE: INFORMIX | ORACLE | ORACLE8 | NTORACLE | ORACLERMAN | SYBASE | LOTUS | NTDB | BABDATABASE | UNIX | UNIXRAW | MSWIN | NETWARE | TAR | CPIO | DRTAR

  This list should be amended to include TSAFS (as the session type for Open Enterprise Server sessions) as follows:

  TYPE: INFORMIX | ORACLE | ORACLE8 | NTORACLE | ORACLERMAN | SYBASE | LOTUS | NTDB | BABDATABASE | UNIX | UNIXRAW | MSWIN | NETWARE | TSAFS | TAR | CPIO | DRTAR

• The section "The sbt.cfg Parameter File" in the Agent for Oracle Guide appendix "Understanding the agent.cfg File and the sbt.cfg Parameter File" contains the following information about the SBT_ORIGINAL_CLIENT_HOST parameter:

  SBT_ORIGINAL_CLIENT_HOST <host name>-When restoring data from one host to another, this parameter specifies the name of the original client host.

  This item should be amended as follows:

  SBT_ORIGINAL_CLIENT_HOST <host name>-When restoring data from one host to another, this parameter specifies the name of the original client host, the source of the files to be used in the current restore.

  In addition, the following parameter should be added to the list of parameters in the sbt.cfg Parameter File section:

  SBT_SOURCE_NAME <source name>- When backing up data, this parameter specifies the client name of the Agent for Oracle machine registered with the BrightStor ARCserve Backup server. This parameter can override the host name in the SBT module.

8.0 International Support

An internationalized product is an English product that runs correctly on local language versions of the required operating system and required third-party products, and supports local language data for input and output. Internationalized products also support the ability to specify local language conventions for date, time, currency, and number formats.

A translated product (sometimes referred to as a localized product) is an internationalized product that includes local language support for the product's user interface, online help and other documentation, as well as local language default settings for date, time, currency, and number formats.

For BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5, in addition to the English release, Computer Associates supports the following languages for all UNIX platforms:

• Italian

• Japanese

• Korean

• Simplified Chinese

• Spanish

• Traditional Chinese

If you run this product on a language environment not included in the list, you may experience problems.

9.0 Documentation

Each PDF guide in a documentation set has a unique Document ID (DID) that appears on the title page of the guide. The DID uses the first six characters to identify the guide, a hyphen, then two characters at the end to identify the edition and language in which it is written. For example, D01193-2E identifies the second edition of the English version of the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX Release Summary. If a third edition of this guide is published, the DID is incremented to D01193-3E. The DID is used without the hyphen for the .PDF file on the product media and on SupportConnect as shown in Filename column of the following table.

14.0 System Requirements for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5

The following sections provide information about the system requirements for BrightStor ARCserve Backup and its agents and options.

Note: For information added to BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 and released with BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1, see the section System Requirements.

14.1 Base Product

The following sections identify the minimum system requirements for the BrightStor ARCserve Backup base product.

Solaris SPARC

BrightStor ARCserve Backup requires, at minimum, the following on Solaris SPARC:

• 256 MB RAM

• 400 MB hard disk space on the BrightStor ARCserve Backup installation file system

• 500 MB hard disk space (temporary) on /var/tmp file systems

IBM AIX

BrightStor ARCserve Backup requires, at minimum, the following on IBM AIX:

• RISC 6000 models

• 256 MB RAM

• 400 MB hard disk space on the BrightStor ARCserve Backup installation file system

14.2 Advantage Ingres Database Requirement

The minimum Advantage™ Ingres® Database requirements for all UNIX platforms are as follows:

• Advantage Ingres: 350 MB hard disk space

• Advantage Ingres database (empty): 350 MB (requires more space as data grows)

• Transaction logs: 1000 MB (default requirement)

If installed on the same file system, a minimum total of 1700 MB hard disk space is required on that file system.

14.3 Advantage Ingres Database Location Requirement

The following information, related to the size of the Advantage Ingres database, should be considered when installing BrightStor ARCserve Backup:

• Some UNIX platforms have a size limit for each file, typically 2 GB. Based on the file size allowed, each extended location can hold up to 2 GB of data or an unlimited amount of data.

  • Solaris allows large file sizes (greater than 2GB) by default.

  • For AIX, you can modify the /etc/security/limits file to allow the ingres user to create large files for the Advantage Ingres database.

  • For HP-UX and Tru64, only user-created file systems can be used to allow large files during the file system creation.

  Note: The installation script allows you to provide an alternate temporary space if /var/tmp does not have sufficient disk space.

14.4 Browser Support

BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 requires, at minimum, the following supporting browsers:

• Internet Explorer 6.0

• Mozilla 1.4

14.5 Client Agent for UNIX

To use the Client Agent for UNIX, you must satisfy the following minimum system requirements on the supported operating systems:

Solaris SPARC or AMD64

• Solaris Ultra SPARC models or higher or AMD64 systems

• 256 MB RAM

• 10 MB hard disk space on the client agent installation file system

• 25 MB hard disk space (temporary) on /var/tmp

Solaris Intel x86

• Any Intel x86 system with at least 1 GHz CPU

• 256 MB RAM

• 10 MB hard disk space on the client agent installation file system

• 25 MB hard disk space (temporary) on /var/tmp file systems

IBM AIX

• RS 6000 models or higher

• 256 MB RAM

• 10 MB hard disk space on the client agent backup installation file system

• 25 MB hard disk space (temporary) on /var/tmp file system

HP-UX PA-RISC/Itanium

• HP-UX 9000 Workstation or Server

• 256 MB RAM

15.0 Installation Considerations for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5

Note: For information added to BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 and released with BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1, see the section Installation Considerations.

The following section provides information to consider when installing BrightStor ARCserve Backup:

• BrightStor ARCserve Backup Client Agent for UNIX no longer supports SCO UnixWare, SCO OpenServer, or SGI.

• If you are installing BrightStor ARCserve Backup on HP-UX 11.0, you must install the latest patches for your operating system before you install BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

• You must install the Java Virtual Machine on HP-UX machines before installing BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

• If you upgrade the Agent for SAP R3 for Oracle from an earlier version of the agent, you must perform an additional step to complete the upgrade. During the upgrade, all binaries, libraries, and files in the Agent directory are updated, but one file in the SAP environment must be updated manually. To update this file, when the Agent for SAP R3 for Oracle upgrade procedure has finished, execute the following command from the Agent for SAP R3 directory:

  sapsetup –u
  

• Any Oracle job already submitted in the BrightStor ARCserve Backup queue before you upgrade must be removed and recreated. These jobs do not work with the newer version of the Agent for Oracle. This includes any job containing at least one Oracle instance backup.

• If you migrate the Agent for Lotus Domino from an earlier version of the agent (from the BrightStor Enterprise Backup version 10.5 SP5 agent or earlier), you must run the agent setup again, after the migration.

16.0 General Considerations for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5

The following sections provide general information to consider when using BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

Note: For information added to BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 and released with BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1, see the section General Considerations.

• Database maintenance is essential to the success of BrightStor ARCserve Backup operations. See the Administrator Guide for more information about database maintenance.

• Cross-platform management is supported only on the Agent for Oracle, Agent for Informix, and Agent for Sybase.

16.1 HP-UX File System Limitations

The default file size limit for HP-UX operating systems is 2 GB of data. The absence of large file support prevents file system devices on HP-UX file systems from storing backups that exceed 2 GB and causes backups to these file system devices to fail.

To enable large backups to a file system device, you must enable large file support on the HP-UX file system hosting the file system device. Enable this support before specifying the file system devices as destinations in your BrightStor ARCserve Backup environment.

For information about enabling large file support on HP-UX operating systems, see the documentation for the HP-UX operating system.

16.2 Disaster Recovery Option Considerations

The following section provides information to consider when using the Disaster Recovery Option:

• The option recognizes devices connected to controller cards supported by the Solaris installation CD.

• The option supports hardware RAID and mirrored disks with drivers present on the Solaris operating system installation CD.

• For successful disaster recovery operations, the hard disks on your system must be the same size or larger than those on the original system. These hard disks must be connected to the same controller and have the same SCSI ID and LUN number as existed before the machine failed.

• We recommend that you use full backups without filters for successful disaster recovery operations.

• You must ensure that the SCSI ID of the tape devices used to restore data during the disaster recovery process has a value from 0 to 6.

16.3 Agent for Oracle Considerations

The following section provides information to consider when using the Agent for Oracle:

• Although the Disk Staging Option has been added to BrightStor ARCserve Backup, child jobs generated by RMAN use the full backup staging policy. You cannot currently extend incremental or differential staging policies to the child jobs generated by RMAN, although this functionality is expected to be included in a future release.

17.0 Known Issues for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5

The following sections provide information about issues known to exist in BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 that have been verified as existing in the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1.

Note: For information added to BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 and released with BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.5 SP1, see the section Known Issues.

17.1 Base Product Known Issues

The following issues relating to the BrightStor ARCserve Backup base product are known to exist in this release:

• Due to a known issue with Mozilla, you may experience problems if you use the Tab key during BrightStor ARCserve Backup domain login. The Tab key does not switch properly. If you encounter this problem, use your mouse to point to the required button or field.

• Restore by Media is not supported for database restore operations. During restore jobs that include database sessions, the server skips these sessions and reports that they were skipped in the Activity log.

• The maximum file name length is 256 characters and the maximum full path length is 1024 characters.

• You must run uagentd without the -l option on HP or Solaris platforms when backing up an NFS file system. If you use this option, your backup job may hang.

• When you recycle the cadbd service, you must also recycle the caqd service so that the status displayed in the job log is accurate.

• To exclude some virtual File Systems from a backup job, add the File System type to the configuration file fs.cntl in the Client Agent home directory (the default Client Agent home path is /opt/CA/BABuagent). For example, on Solaris 10 SPARC, add the following:

17.2 Agent for Informix Known Issues

The following issues relating to the Agent for Informix are known to exist in this release:

• For warm restore operations (restore operations in which the database server is on line), if you choose multiple dbspaces to restore from the BrightStor ARCserve Backup GUI at the same time, confirm that these dbspaces are backed up to different tapes. If not, you must restore them one by one from the Restore Manager.

• The Smart Restore functionality is not supported for the Agent for Informix.

• The agent does not support session passwords.

• Compare Media to Disk is not supported on Agent for Informix sessions.

• When you connect to certain IDS 9.3 32-bit on Solaris, you may not be able to browse Informix objects from the BrightStor ARCserve Backup GUI after normal installation and configuration. Verify that fetch_infmx is linked to fetch_infmx32 under the Agent for Informix home directory and try to relink fetch_infmx to fetch_infmx64 manually.

17.3 Agent for Lotus Domino Known Issues

The following issues related to the Agent for Lotus Domino are known to exist in this release:

• The Smart Restore functionality is not supported for the Agent for Lotus Domino.

• Compare Media to Disk is not supported on Agent for Lotus Domino sessions.

17.4 Agent for Sybase Known Issues

The following issues related to the Agent for Sybase are known to exist in this release:

• The Smart Restore functionality is not supported for the Agent for Sybase.

• Compare Media to Disk is not supported on Agent for Sybase sessions.

17.5 Agent for Oracle Known Issues

The following issues related to the Agent for Oracle are known to exist in this release:

• The Restore by Media and Restore by Session options are not supported for this release.

• You cannot back up multiple Oracle instances in the same job.

• You cannot mix Oracle instance backups and other backup types (for example file system backup or any other database type backup).

• Due to a known issue with Oracle, if you are using Oracle 8.1.6 32-bit on AIX 4.3.3, you may encounter difficulty restoring a successfully created backup because RMAN fails to accurately recognize the backup. You can, however, restore your data using an older backup. Therefore, we recommend that you periodically run a validate operation on your backups to ensure that you have a prior backup from which to restore. If you reduce the block size and run the backup again, you may be able to enable the restore operation (although no specific valid value has been determined).

• The Smart Restore functionality is not supported for the Agent for Oracle.

• Merge operations on file system devices containing Oracle backup sessions are not supported for this release.

• The agent does not support session passwords.

• You must use an RMAN Catalog to run jobs with the Oracle option Include Control File Oracle option enabled from the Oracle Restore Manager. If you enabled the control file autobackup feature for the target database before using the Agent for Oracle, use your own RMAN scripts to restore an autobackup of the control file. For more information, see the Agent for Oracle Guide.

• Compare Media to Disk is not supported on Agent for Oracle sessions.

• If you select multiple channels to back up, you must have available, at minimum, the same number of device groups as channels and you must select the Any Group option in the GUI.

17.6 Disaster Recovery Option Known Issues

The following issues affecting the Disaster Recovery Option are known to exist in BrightStor ARCserve Backup for this release:

• The Disaster Recovery Option recovers only BrightStor ARCserve Backup formatted media. When you perform a full backup for disaster recovery purposes, do not change the media format to Posix tar format or Posix cpio format.

• To use tape libraries during disaster recovery, you must manually mount the required media in the drive.

• The option does not support the following types of backup operations:

  • tar format backup operations

  • cpio format backup operations

  • Raw backup operations

  • File system device backup operations

• The option supports UFS formatted volumes only. To restore volumes with different file systems, manually create the file system and initiate the restore using the Restore Manager after the option restores the UFS volumes.

• Disks managed by volume management software are not supported.

• When you use the command line utility ca_backup to create backups to be used for disaster recovery, use the node option to specify that the entire node is to be backed up.

17.7 NDMP NAS Option Known Issues

The following issues related to the NDMP NAS Option are known to exist in this release:

• If you are using a tape that was formatted using an older version of the option (earlier than BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r11.1), you must reformat the tape using the updated NDMP NAS Option to be compatible with other BrightStor ARCserve Backup tape formats before you can add sessions to the tape.

  Note: You can still restore backed up sessions from tapes formatted with older versions of the option.

• The option does not support the merging of multiplexing formatted tape in a NAS environment using the NAS-attached device.

• The option does not support Custom Incremental and Custom Differential backup methods.

• The NDMP NAS Option for UNIX cannot merge tapes formatted with the NDMP NAS Option for Windows.

17.8 Enterprise Option for Advantage Ingres Known Issues

The following issues related to the Enterprise Option for Advantage Ingres are known to exist in this release:

• The Smart Restore functionality is not supported for the Enterprise Option for Advantage Ingres.

• Under certain circumstances, an Advantage Ingres backup job executed on a clustered Advantage Ingres installation may not automatically fail over to an active member if it fails to execute on the node where it has been registered. If this occurs, you must manually relaunch the job on another server in the Advantage Ingres cluster.

• Compare Media to Disk is not supported on Enterprise Option for Advantage Ingres sessions.

17.9 Enterprise Option for DB2 Known Issues

The following issues related to the Enterprise Option for DB2 are known to exist in this release:

• The Smart Restore functionality is not supported for the Enterprise Option for DB2.

• Compare Media to Disk is not supported on Enterprise Option for DB2 sessions.

17.10 Enterprise Option for SAP R3 for Oracle Known Issues

The following issues related to the Enterprise Option for SAP R3 for Oracle are known to exist in this release:

• The Smart Restore functionality is not supported for the Enterprise Option for SAP R3 for Oracle.

• Compare Media to Disk is not supported on Enterprise Option for SAP R3 for Oracle sessions.

17.11 Enterprise Option for StorageTek ACSLS

The following issues related to the Enterprise Option for StorageTek ACSLS are known to exist in this release:

• The Smart Restore functionality is not supported for the Enterprise Option for StorageTek ACSLS.

• If you upgrade from a previous release of BrightStor Enterprise Backup, such as Release 10.0 SP5 or Release 10.5 SP1 in a StorageTek ACSLS environment, you must add the following line in the camediad.cfg file manually under the [SHARED_CHANGER} section for camediad to start normally:

The following issues relating to the integration of BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 and BrightStor® Portal r11.1 are known to exist in this release:

• If you plan to use the BrightStor Portal to manage and report on BrightStor ARCserve Backup, you must ensure that you have applied the latest patches for BrightStor Portal r11.1. These patches are available at http://supportconnect.ca.com. For more information, see the iGateway and iSponsor readme documentation included with this release.

• The iSponsor and iGateway are not supported on Tru64 for BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

• If you run reports for BrightStor ARCserve Backup from the BrightStor Portal server and the reports you receive have no content, perform the following procedure:

  1. On every Report page, click Options.

  2. In the Query list, add the following:

     <?xml version="1.0"  encoding="UTF-8"?>
     

  BrightStor ARCserve Backup reports should properly display content.

18.0 Documentation Changes for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5

The following section provides information about items that have not yet been changed in the product documentation, but that affect the information in that documentation:

• The following new switch has been added to the ca_devmgr command:

  -regenerate <adapter #> <scsi ID> <lun> <tape name> [ <random ID> <mm/dd/yyyy> ]
  

  This option is for use with file system devices. It lets you regenerate a new volume header with a new name that you specify.

  After you generate a new volume header, you can merge all of the sessions on the file system device into the BrightStor ARCserve Backup database. This capability lets you initiate restore operations from the file system device using the merged session data.

  If you know the original tape name (<tapename>) and its random ID (<randomID>), you can reuse them such that the session records in the BrightStor ARCserve Backup database can reconnect to the volume without having to merge the session records again.

  Use the <mm/dd/yyyy> parameter to specify the last backup date of SnapLocked data on the volume.

• The Administrator Guide and the online help state that you can define staging policies that direct BrightStor ARCserve Backup to create a makeup job on Hold or back up directly to tape if an exceeds threshold condition occurs. This statement should indicate that you can define staging policies that direct BrightStor ARCserve Backup to create a makeup job to back up directly to tape if an exceeds threshold condition occurs or to create a makeup job on Hold if a data migration failure occurs.

• The Enterprise Option for Advantage Ingres Guide should contain the following information:

  You can set the size of the Ingresd.log file in the agent.cfg file. To do so, enter one of the following variables to the agent.cfg file:

  CA_ENV_LOG_MAX_SIZE: The maximum log size when writing normal execution messages. Enter an integer value representing the number of bytes of the file. The default value is 20 MB.

  CA_ENV_DBGLOG_MAX_SIZE: The maximum log size when writing debug level messages. Enter an integer value representing the number of bytes of the file. The default value is 200 MB.

• The Restoring Data chapter of the Administrator Guide states that BrightStor ARCserve Backup provides three methods to select the files to restore. The subsequent section should provide the following information about Restore by File System:

  The Restore by File System view displays only the last instance of a backup. To view and access all other instances, select the object that you want to restore and click the Version History button. If there are multiple partial backups of the same drive, the Restore by File System view displays only the last backup. However, if there is a full volume backup of the drive available, the last full backup is displayed, instead of the last partial backup.

  For example, if a drive contains two directories that were backed up on April 21 and April 28, and if a full backup of the drive was performed on April 1, only the April 1 backup appears in the Restore Manager.

  To restore the April 28 instance of one of the directories, select the directory in the Restore by File System view and click Version History. From the Version History dialog, select the April 28 instance and click Select.

  The Restore by File System view uses the BrightStor ARCserve Backup database; if the database engine is stopped, this method is not available.

19.0 Language Certification for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5

An internationalized product is an English product that runs correctly on local language versions of the required operating system and required third-party products, and supports local language data for input and output. Internationalized products also support the ability to specify local language conventions for date, time, currency, and number formats.

A translated product (sometimes referred to as a localized product) is an internationalized product that includes local language support for the product's user interface, online help and other documentation, as well as local language default settings for date, time, currency, and number formats.

For BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX r.11.5, in addition to the English release, Computer Associates supports the following languages for all UNIX platforms except Tru64 (Tru64 has been tested on English only):

Each PDF guide in a documentation set has a unique Document ID (DID) that appears on the title page of the guide. The DID uses the first six characters to identify the guide, a hyphen, then two characters at the end to identify the edition and language in which it is written. For example, D01193-1E identifies the first edition of the English version of the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX Release Summary. When the second edition of this guide is published, the DID is incremented to D01193-2E.
