4.2 Install BrightStor ARCserve Backup as a Cluster-aware Application on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2

To install and configure BrightStor ARCserve Backup as a cluster-aware application on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 in an NEC CLUSTERPRO/ExpressCluster installation, perform the following procedure on all physical nodes in the cluster:

  1. Install BrightStor ARCserve Backup using the cluster-aware installation instructions in the appendix Backing Up and Restoring NEC CLUSTERPRO/ExpressCluster Clusters in the Administrator Guide.

Do not configure your storage area network if you have the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Storage Area Network (SAN) Option installed.

  2. Add the following DWORD value to the Windows registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters and set the value to 0x01:
    DisableStrictNameChecking

  3. Remove the following DWORD value from the Windows registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0 if it exists:
    BackConnectionHostNames

  4. Recreate the following multi-string DWORD value with the virtual computer name in the Windows registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0:
    BackConnectionHostNames

Set this value to Virtual Computer Name, the name associated with the BrightStor ARCserve Backup cluster failover group (for example BABVirServer).

  5. Add the virtual computer name and the floating IP address to the hosts file (for example, %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts).

  6. Configure your SAN if you have the SAN Option installed.

  7. Follow these steps on all other physical servers in the cluster to finish the installation.

4.3 Create New Disaster Recovery CDs after Applying Patches

After you apply any major patches, you must update the disaster recovery media used to protect your local backup server machine as well as any remote client machines. We strongly recommend that you update your disaster recovery media as soon as possible after applying any major patches.

The method you use to update your media depends upon the operating system and disaster recovery method you have chosen to protect the machines:

5.0 General Considerations

For information about general information to consider for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5, see the section General Considerations for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.

The following sections provide general information to consider when using BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

  3. Uninstall all components of BrightStor ARCserve Backup.

  4. Reinstall BrightStor ARCserve Backup on the new drive and apply any patches that were applied to the original installation.

Note: Because you are reinstalling BrightStor ARCserve Backup on the same computer, you do not need to register or license it again.

  5. Copy the database directory and 00000001.qsd directory you copied to a temporary directory over the versions of these directories created by the new installation.

  6. Start all of the BrightStor ARCserve Backup services. From the home directory, enter cstart to start all the necessary services.

5.2 High Density Mode for NAS Device Configuration

You can now use high density auto-selection mode for NetApp to set all devices to high compression mode. By default, devices are set to low density mode.

To use higher density mode, add the DWORD value bPreferHighDensityForNetapp to the following key before NAS device configuration, and set it to 1:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Base\TapeEngine\CONFIG

Alternatively, you can use manual configuration to enter high density tape drive names.

5.3 Iomega USB Autoloader Configuration

If you use an Iomega USB autoloader, you need not install the BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup for Windows r11.5 SP1 Tape Library Option. In addition, you need not run Device Configuration to configure your devices.

5.4 Device Configuration on MSCS Cluster Servers

    The Properties dialog appears.

  3. On the Advanced tab of the Properties dialog, click Do Not Restart.

  4. Configure your devices as necessary for your environment.

  5. Right-click the BrightStor ARCserve Backup resource and select Properties from the pop-up menu.

    The Properties dialog appears.

  6. On the Advanced tab of the Properties dialog, click Restart and bring the BrightStor ARCserve Backup resource back on line.

  7. Add the BrightStor BKP Registry resource to the MSCS Cluster Administrator, set dependencies for it, and bring it on line.

For more information, see the sections Register BrightStor ARCserve Backup Registry Hive for Replication and Set Up Dependencies Between BrightStor ARCserve Backup Groups in the appendix "Backing Up and Restoring MSCS Clusters" in the Administrator Guide.

5.5 Adjust NEC CLUSTERPRO/ExpressCluster Sleep Timing during Group Failover

Depending on your environment, errors related to the releasing of resources can cause BABGroup failover operations to fail. To address this issue, you can adjust the sleep timing in the BABGroup stop script (stop.bat) by adjusting the armsleep value.

The armsleep value indicates the number of seconds the system waits for resources to be released during failover. You can prolong this to 3 or 4 seconds if failover operations fail with errors relating to the releasing of resources.

To adjust the value, perform one of the following actions:

5.6 General Considerations for the Agent for Microsoft Data Protection Manager

Additionally, the Client Agent for Windows does not obtain an Excluded Files List from Oracle databases under this configuration. Note: For information about issues known to exist only in the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows r11.5 SP1, see the section Known Issues.

16.1 Portmapper Conflicts with BrightStor ARCserve Backup

If BrightStor ARCserve Backup detects port 111 conflicts, indicating that it is using the same port number for the CA Remote Procedure Call server service as a previously installed portmapper, BrightStor ARCserve Backup automatically switches to another port number.

To avoid having other software affected by a similar problem, change the Automatic status of the CA Remote Procedure Call server service to Manual. If you have installed BrightStor ARCserve Backup in a Microsoft Cluster Services environment, change the Automatic status of the CA Remote Procedure Call server service to Disabled. This enables you to avoid similar port conflicts after the system has completed the boot process.

BrightStor ARCserve Backup can work with external Portmappers (SFU 3.0, Noblenet Portmapper, StorageTek Libattach etc.). However, during the machine boot up sequence, BrightStor ARCserve Backup services may try to initialize before the external portmapper has fully initialized. Under these circumstances, BrightStor ARCserve Backup services then fail to initialize. To avoid this problem, perform the following steps:

  1. Create the DWORD DelayedRegistration in the following:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Base\Portmap

  2. Assign a decimal value for this key, indicating the number of minutes BrightStor ARCserve Backup services wait before initializing portmapper registration. For example, DelayedRegistration=2 causes all BrightStor ARCserve Backup services to start, but not register with the portmapper for two minutes after startup.
