Welcome to CA 2E Release 8.5. This document contains relevant technical notes about r8.5, and information about contacting CA Technical Support.
CA 2E and Web Option require IBM i (i5/OS) version V5R3 or higher.
Web Services Support requires IBM i (i5/OS) version V5R4 or higher. Additional V5R4 PTFs are required, see IBM i server requirements below
For instructions about installing or upgrading, see the Installation Guide.
For instructions about installing or upgrading the Web Option product, see the Web Option User Guide.
For instructions about installation tasks required for the Web Services Support feature, see the r8.5 Release Notes, Web Services Support section, or the Web Service Support section in the Installation Guide.
You can install the CA r8.5 documentation set to a Windows PC. See the section HTML Bookshelf for installation instructions.
The r8.5 version of the 1E program YBRTP2R uses a new version of data area YBRTPXA. If you want to use your existing 1E data library, then you should delete YBRTPXA from this library, and run YCRTY1DTA with your existing library to create the new version of this data area.
CA 2E r8.5 uses the same licensing codes used for the CA 2E r8.1 GA release; if you already have a license for r8.1 GA, you do not need to obtain a new license for r8.5.
There are no known issues for CA 2e r8.5.
The list of published fixes can be located in the CA 2E Release Notes document and on the CA Support website.

This release contains the CA HTML Bookshelf, which is HTML help system that provides access to all deliverables in the product documentation set, regardless of the file format. The HTML Bookshelf features include:
You must install the HTML Bookshelf separately from the product installation.
To install the HTML Bookshelf
This installs the bookshelf to the following location: Programs > CA > CA 2E r8.5 > Bookshelf
Note: You can also download and extract the <product name> HTML Bookshelf.ZIP file from CA Support Online. To extract the content of a .ZIP file, use an archive program such as WinZip or StuffIt, and choose to extract the content to a local folder. Once extracted, open the Bookshelf folder and click the Bookshelf.hta file.
The release number on the title page of a document might not correspond to the current product release number; however, all documentation delivered with the product, regardless of release number on the title page, will support your use of the current product release. The release number changes only when a significant portion of a document changes to support a new or updated product release. If no substantive changes are made to a document, the release number does not change. For example, a document for r11 may still be valid for r11.1 or even r12. Documentation bookshelves always reflect the current product release number.
Occasionally, we must update documentation outside of a new or updated release. To indicate a minor change to the documentation that does not invalidate it for any releases that it supports, we update the edition number on the cover page. First editions do not have an edition number.
