Definitions

userid

Is the user ID whose password(s) you want to change. If you specify userid without any other parameters, the command generates separate random read, write, and multiple passwords for all minidisks that have link passwords owned by that user ID, and a new random logon password.

The randomly generated passwords are of the form cvccvc, where c is a consonant and v is a vowel.

If you specify userid without any other parameters, the command generates a random logon password only. No minidisk password will be changed.

[ RESET | NORESET ]

Updates the flag special comment (*FL=), forcing the user to change his logon password at next logon (RESET), or causes password status to be set to indicate the password is valid, not new, not expired and does not need reset when the user logs on in the user’s directory entry (NORESET).

RESET is valid only if the Rules Facility is implemented. With NORESET, the user is not prompted to specify a new password at next logon.

[ newpass ]

Is the new password to replace the existing password in the directory entry for userid. The password can be one to eight characters long and cannot include spaces.

If you do not specify a new password, the command generates a random password.

Password phrases cannot be assigned by using this parameter.

[?]

Reads a password string from the stack. If the stack is empty, the issuer is prompted for the password value with the console input being masked.

Password phrases can be assigned by using this parameter.

[ BYONLY ]

Inserts a *NB=Y special comment in the user’s directory entry, making the user ID accessible only with the LOGONBY Facility or the CP LOGON BY command. The user’s password is still changed when this option is used.

Note: If you specify BYONLY for a user ID, be sure to specify BYONLY every time you subsequently use the PASSWORD command with that user ID. If you do not, CA VM:Secure removes the *NB= comment.

[ LOGON ]

Replaces only the logon password in the directory entry for userid. The LOGON option is assumed if a password phrase is specified in response to a prompt.

[ TERM ]

Prompts for a password directly from a terminal, bypassing the program stack, with the console input being masked.

Password phrases can be assigned by using this option.
