Persistent Session Group Box
The Persistent Session Group Box is where you configure a realm to use standard (non-persistent) sessions or persistent sessions:
If selected (the default), sessions in this realm are non-persistent (that is, tracked using cookies).
If selected, sessions in this realm are persistent (that is, user sessions are tracked in the session store and optional cookies).
Note: If Persistent Session is selected, the Idle Timeout Enabled option must be set.
Note: If you configure one or more realms to use persistent sessions, you must ensure that the Session Server is enabled and configured. See the SiteMinder Policy Server Management Guide.
If set, the specified value determines the maximum period between agent calls to the Policy Server to validate a session. Session validation calls perform two functions: informing the Policy Server that a user is still active and checking that the user’s session is still valid.
This setting is disabled by default. To specify a validation period, select the check box.
To specify the validation period length, enter values in the Hours, Minutes, and Seconds fields. If you are configuring SiteMinder to provide a Windows user security context, set this value high, for example, 15-30 minutes. Also, if active sessions are lower than the Agent’s maximum user session cache value, the Agent will not have to revalidate a session with the session server.
Note: The session Validation Period must be less than the specified Idle Timeout value.
