Upgrade from BusinessObjects Enterprise XI or XI Release 2 to BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1

This chapter helps you in upgrading your Business Intelligence content and system data from versions of BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2 to BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1.

Before you begin, it is important to understand the difference between upgrading and other software update options such as migration and importing.

• Upgrading consists of replacing components and files from BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2 with components and files from BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1.
• Importing consists of copying reports, report instances, users, groups, universes, universe connections, and other objects from one BusinessObjects Enterprise deployment to another.

The upgrade options that are available to you depend on your current deployment and your preferred method of updating.
