Within CA Server Automation, CA Configuration Automation manages configuration changes and configuration change detection for the resources in your data center, and CA Network Discovery Gateway provides discovery and classification of all entities (new nodes and subnets) in your IP network.
Each system or service must have a CA Configuration Automation server assigned for verification features to work. If no CCA server is assigned to the system or service for which you try to perform a verification operation, you will be prompted to assign a CCA server and also management and access profiles in a pop-up dialog.
Running CA Configuration Automation Discovery or a management profile before you execute verification operations for servers or services helps ensure that your information about the server or service is up-to-date and the operation you perform gives correct results.
Discovery is a good choice if you want a small footprint and do not need all the features that CA Configuration Automation provides. Only Discovery can add or delete systems from the Management Database. If you add systems from CA Configuration Automation directly, you can use the synchronization function so that all new systems in CA Configuration Automation are discovered and added to the Management Database. If you delete systems from CA Configuration Automation directly, the synchronization function adds the systems back into CA Configuration Automation again.
