Run Rule Compliance for an ESX Server
You can create access and management profiles and schedule a recurring compliance job for an ESX server in one operation.
To be able to use this functionality, the following conditions must be met:
- The target system is ESX 4.x.
- The root user is allowed for SSH login to the ESX server.
- The VMware ESX Server 4.1 with Compliance Rules.jar blueprint is imported into CA Configuration Automation.
Follow these steps:
- Open the Explore pane.
Available groups, services, and systems appear.
- Expand the VMware vCenter Server folder and right-click an ESX server.
A shortcut menu appears.
- Select Verification, Run Rule Compliance.
The ESX 4.x Rule Compliance dialog appears.
- Select a CCA server, and enter the user name and password for the ESX server. If you want to create a scheduled compliance job, enable the Schedule action for rule compliance option. Click OK.
The following steps are performed automatically:
- The selected CCA server is assigned to the ESX server.
- Access and management profiles are created and assigned to the ESX server.
- Server discovery is run.
- Rule compliance is run.
- A scheduled action for repeated running of the compliance job is created.
- On the Policy tab, you can adjust the action and its schedule. By default, the compliance job is run every Sunday at midnight.
